Old Parliament House - Museum of Australian Democracy (MoAD) is recognised as one of
the most significant heritage buildings in Australia. Luxygen was approached to offer a
solution for the upgrade of heritage luminaires, including the 10 large pendants in the
Senate Chambers.
Each of the Chambers had been upgraded earlier to LED. Over time the LED chipset had
deteriorated and lost its phosphor coating. Along with the noticeable hot spotting from the
LED source, the area was left with an undesirable blue light.
This was a challenge project as luminaires were unable to be removed due to their heritage
nature and MoAD was still operating public tour groups. All luminaire measurements and
structural details had to be taken on site.
Working alongside Shepherd Electrical and Manteena, Luxygen teamed with 3s Lighting to
provide the solution which was set by WSP and the MoAD Heritage team. This was to
provide a DALI dimmable, high lumen package, excellent colour rendering and a very
smooth and even illumination.
